After participants are settled in, the week will begin with a tasty, healthy meal and get-together program. From that point on, the schedule will provide activities to assist participants in gaining strength, confidence, and a sense of the future.

The presentations will begin with basic nutritional information and healthy cooking presentations. This will provide the foundation for the week and allow a natural progression of each day building on to the experience of the previous day. As the week unfolds, a collective enthusiasm will grow in anticipation for the next day of programming.

During a special week for family and friends’, survivors will be able to share quality time with a spouse, family member or close friend who was there for them as a valuable ally and supporter. This will facilitate greater awareness of loved ones' needs and perspectives, contributing to enhancing relationships important for a healthful and satisfying future. Five survivors will be joined with the person of his/her choice.

SOE will offer programs providing opportunities for having a ‘cancer buddy’ during their week. Participants will be matched with a person who shares some of his/her survivorship issues. Many cancer survivors have found a common bond. This is especially true with someone diagnosed with the same type of this potentially deadly disease.

By providing this inspirational program, SOE will enable participants to meet other survivors to share and create stories of life, love and hope. It is also an opportunity for cancer survivors to learn to love and appreciate their own strengths and determination to survive. They will leave our ‘camp’ with a heightened enthusiasm for nature and a renewed sensibility for simply appreciating the beauty of life.
