Dan Maguire, Vice President
Dan joined our Board after retiring as the CEO of the Clallam County Family YMCA of Port Angeles. He was responsible for many community projects during his thirteen years including founding the Jefferson County YMCA branch and leading the building of the Port Angeles Dream Playground. His development of dozens of new programs in wellness, outdoor adventure, teen camps and other areas leads to a ideal fit with the SOE program.
Dan is a survivor of prostate cancer.
Dave Long, Secretary
Dave came to our program with an interest in helping people find ways of preparing healthy and tasty meals in their daily lives. His commitment to bringing organic and local foods to the menu of the restaurants he has managed has led to a following of appreciative eaters. He has taught at the Port Angeles Skills Center, Peninsula College, and for smaller groups of home cooking practitioners.
John Popinski, Treasurer
John was able to move to the Olympic Peninsula as an early retiree from the building industry. His desire to help others gives him an opportunity for an “encore career” by lending his business knowledge to our program. John learned the impact of a cancer diagnosis on a family when he lost his younger brother to lung cancer during the summer of 2007.
John Wegmann, Advisor
John moved to Port Angeles to join the Peninsula Children's Clinic in 1973. After 34 years he retired from pediatric practice at the end of 2007. His lifelong commitment to helping others lead to his decision to join the SOE Board. He is also a volunteer on trail crews for Olympic National Park and the Olympic Discovery Trail. He was diagnosed with prostate cancer late in 2008 and treated in 2009.
